Exercise Rehydration Lollies

Exercise Rehydration Lollies

These lollies have been designed for those athletes or sport enthusiasts who train hard and need to replenish their bodies after a tough session. They are loaded with essential goodness to replace electrolytes and protein lost through sweat and training. They will aid with recovery time as well as being a refreshing treat after a hard workout.

Coconut water is to aid in restoring potassium balance during and after sport. It is also an excellent source of the B-complex vitamins such as riboflavin, niacin, thiamin, pyridoxine, and folates. These vitamins are essential in the sense that the human body requires them from external sources to replenish. It is so restorative that it was given intravenously to soldiers during the Second World War when regular IV saline solution ran out.

Lemon/orange juice boosts vitamin C, is also great for insulin resistance, and stimulates white blood cell production, vital for your immune system to function properly. Taking products like lypo-spheric vitamin c supplements also works in protecting the body from unbalanced free radicals and oxidative stress. As an antioxidant, vitamin C also protects cells from oxidative damage. Vitamin C is also great for your skin, which is why your Mum would always tell you to eat your fruit and vegetables as a teenager. It is also why so many supplements (perhaps sourced from beverly hills md) these days include it, as it helps people have firmer and brighter skin. Athletes tend to get very red and sweaty in the face, so this helps their skin to recover.

Collagen/Gelatin for more than just a protein boost. Proteins deliver numerous health benefits and specific bioactive proteins, collagen hydrolysate in particular, can offer benefits beyond muscle building. These include improving athletic performance, protecting connective tissues, supporting healthy joint maintenance and helping to reduce the risk of injury.

Maple syrup is added not only for a delicious touch of sweetness but also to replace glycogen reserve in muscles.

How do they taste? These are not your typical sugar laden lollies, not sweet but simply a refreshing frozen lemon drink on a stick. The collagen is tasteless so has no impact on the flavour at all. Ideal after a long run or crossfit workout to enjoy a cold refreshing lolly knowing you are replacing some much needed goodness guilt free.

Add a few pieces of fruit, berries or edible flower to jazz it up.

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon and orange juice (about 1 large lemon and 1 orange)
  • 3 cups coconut water - buy it here
  • 2 Tbsp collagen hydrolysate - buy it here
  • 2 tsp quality maple syrup or raw honey

  1. Heat the citrus juice slightly, not to boiling, but warm enough to be able to dissolve the collagen.
  2. Add the collagen and maple syrup/honey and stir until everything is well mixed.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the coconut water.
  4. Pour either into a lolly mould or ice trays
  5. Freeze until solid

If you can't get hold of collagen, simply leave it out, it does not change the taste of the lollies just boosts the nutritional value.
