The sun is shining and I’m not going to waste much time inside working, but I really wanted to get these amazing bacon sticks up as soon as possible to be able to share my best kept secret with everyone. They are brilliant on the BBQ or even roasted under the grill then brushed with the amazing whiskey sauce.
Inspired by one of my favourite South African treats called a koeksister (pronounced cook sister) it is a braided dough which is deep fried then immediately dunked into a deep bowl of cold sugary syrup. Utterly delicious but far from healthy and explains the multitude of health issues that I experienced pre Paleo days.
These braids are a healthier low carb high protein version using free range bacon from my favourite online farmer’s market Farmers Choice. If you are keto or really low carb and want to avoid the sauce due to the maple syrup then simply enjoy with a low sugar tomato sauce.
